Character Interpretation:

· Students pick a historical figure being studied.
· Conduct research to develop a first person monologue to represent their chosen historical figure.
o Can create and use costumes.
· Goal is to take on persona of the historical figure and travel back in time.
· Can use in small groups and create a rubric for peer evaluation.


Strengths and Weaknesses:

+ Students are actively engaged in learning about a time in history.
+ Students who struggle with reading and writing are able to present ideas learned through acting not a test.
+ Creates a classroom community with rich peer interactions.
- Students who struggle with speaking to large number of people will have increased anxiety.
- Each student will fully understand one historical figure but may not learn others.
- Can be difficult to keep students on topic when presenting their historical figure.
